Habakkuk 3:1-19 “Habakkuk’s Prayer”

Apr 3, 2022    Dr. Jay Jones

In Habakkuk 3, the prophet responds to all of God’s revelations with a prayer that turns fear into faith and despair into worship. Facing the reality of Babylon’s coming invasion, Habakkuk pleads with God to remember mercy, recounts the Lord’s mighty acts of deliverance in the past, and trembles at His power. Yet in one of the most profound confessions of faith in Scripture, he declares that even if the fig tree doesn’t blossom, the fields produce no food, and the stalls stand empty, he will rejoice in the Lord and take joy in the God of his salvation. This final chapter shows us that true faith is not dependent on circumstances but on God Himself, who is our strength even when everything else is stripped away.
