Habakkuk 2:4-5 “The Antithesis of Faith”

Dr. Jay Jones

In Habakkuk 2:4–5, God draws a sharp contrast between two kinds of people: the proud, whose souls are puffed up and never at rest, and the righteous, who live by faith. Pride, like a drunken delusion, drives people to self-reliance, greed, and endless striving, but it ultimately leads to destruction. In contrast, the humble trust in God alone and find life in Him. This passage shows that salvation is not a gray area but a black-and-white reality—there are only two paths, pride or faith. Habakkuk’s words challenge us to renounce self-sufficiency and embrace the simplicity of trusting Christ alone, the only way to stand righteous before God.
