Habakkuk 2:6-20 “Woe to the Chaldeans”

Mar 27, 2022    Dr. Jay Jones

In Habakkuk 2:6–20, God pronounces five woes of judgment against Babylon, exposing the futility and doom of those who build their lives on pride, greed, violence, and idolatry. The oppressor will reap what he sows, destroy himself by his own arrogance, find his blood-soaked achievements empty, disgrace himself in immorality, and finally discover that his lifeless idols cannot save. These woes reveal the severity and justice of God’s judgment and remind us that evil never has the last word. At the same time, they point us to Christ, who bore God’s wrath in our place, so that we might escape the fate of Babylon and live in reverent awe before the holy God who reigns from His temple.
